Analysis on Alameda Street:
This is a hit-and-run vehicle crash which means investigators may review California Code, VEH 20001. The driver may have violated this code as it states that a driver involved in an accident that resulted in an injury or death is required to stop near or at the scene. It is also required to fulfill the requirements of Section 20003 and 20004.
Because the driver may have violated this code, they may face penalties under (b)(1). This code states that unless provided in paragraph (2) anyone who violates subdivision (a) should be punished with imprisonment in a state prison or county jail for at least a year. Under this code you can also be fined for at least one thousand dollars.
Another code law that investigators may view is California Code, VEH 20008. This code can help investigators understand what the driver may have violated. This law states that if you cause an injury or death, you are required to write a report to the DMV within 24 hours after the incident. If the driver never even wrote a report which highly is doubtful that they did, then they violated 20008. These codes can help determine why the injured pedestrian was struck in the hit-and-run collision.
