(Long Beach, California) At 6:53 p.m., on Saturday an SUV struck a male dirt biker, resulting in his fatal death on Spring Street and Karen Avenue.

According to Long Beach police the unidentified dirt biker was approaching Karen Avenue when the 2012 Linkcoln Navigator struck the man while attempting to make a left turn.

Once officers arrived at the scene, the dirt biker was found unresponsive on the roadway. The Long Beach Fire Department reported to the scene and pronounced the pedestrian dead.

Legal Analysis on the Karen Avenue Crash

Based on the fatal crash, speed and penal laws may be reviewed by investigators to help reach final decisions on what kind of punishments the SUV driver will face

The SUV driver may have possibly driven above 100 miles per hour based on the fact that the biker was unresponsive when officers arrived at the scene. Under California Vehicle Code 22348 it is prohibited to speed above 100 miles per hour. Due to the law, the driver could possibly face serious punishments of $500 dollars under the first conviction.

Because the SUV driver caused the death of another person, they committed vehicular homicide. Under California Penal Code 193 they may be imprisoned at a state prison for four to six years.
