(Escondido, California) A 65-year-old man was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle at Escondido Boulevard and West El Norte Parkway.

Before 10:30 p.m., an officer received a 911 call for a 65-year-old who was gravely injured on Saturday. The pedestrian was transported to Palomar Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

According to investigators, the man was hit by a vehicle who left the scene following the pedestrian’s injuries.

The male identity has not been released to the public.

Analysis on Escondido Boulevard and West El Norte Parkway

Investigators may look at California Vehicle, Code 20001. This is due to the driver failing to stay on scene after striking the pedestrian. This code prohibits drivers from leaving the scene. Drivers must follow what is required to do in cases like this under Sections 20003 and 20004, stated in this code.

This law discusses that besides what’s provided in (2) of this code, if a person violates subdivision (a) should be punished in the state prison or county jail for at least a year or you can get fined for at least $1,000 to $10,000.

The investigators can also view 20001 (2). This states the following violations that may relate to the driver at fault. In (2) it states that an accident described in (a) results in a fatal death or injuries, you can be imprisoned in a state prison from two to four years. You can be imprisoned in a state prison for at least 90 days. You can also get fined $1,000 to $10,000 dollars. Any of the stated code laws that the driver may have violated could have resulted in the death of the 65-year-old man.
