Moreno Valley, CA (November 6, 2023) A man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he forced a motorcycle deputy off the road and injuring him, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Moreno Valley Station. The collision occurred on Saturday, November 4th, around 9:30 a.m.

It started when a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputy tried to stop a black Nissan Altima who was speeding down Perris Boulevard. The driver of the Nissan crashed into a white Chevrolet pickup truck at the intersection of Eucalyptus Avenue and Perris Boulevard, according to Deputy Chris Loucks.

Without warning, the driver suddenly slammed on the brakes and stopped. Deputy Loucks said the driver did this intentionally. The motorcycle deputy tried to avoid the Nissan, but didn’t have enough time. The deputy’s motorcycle hit the rear of the Nissan, which disabled the motorcycle.

The driver then hit the gas and sped away from the scene, leaving the motorcycle deputy injured.

Deputies later caught up to the Nissan driver near Perris Street and Webster Street, according to authorities. The driver was taken into custody and faces several charges.

The motorcycle deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries in this collision. The other occupants of the Nissan, as well as the driver, were uninjured. However, deputies determined that the driver of the Nissan had been under the influence of drugs. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, driving under the influence of drugs, hit-and-run and reckless evading law enforcement.
