(Downtown Los Angeles, California) Francis Donis, 24, now identified, died when a Green Toyota Sienna struck her on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway in Downtown Los Angeles.

According to California Highway Patrol, Donis suffered multiple blunt force traumatic injuries due to the fatal crash that occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Saturday. The collision took place on the eastbound freeway at the Alameda Street off-ramp.

Legal Perspective on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway Accident

Because there is little information about the collision, we can only make assumptions based on what we know and potential cause. Oftentimes when a person strikes another vehicle, most of the time they may be impaired. For example, an ice cream truck driver was struck by a vehicle that was driving under the influence, causing the ice cream driver to have a fractured rib and other injuries.

If DUI was one or the main cause of the collision, then investigators may review California Vehicle Code 23152, which prohibits driving under the influence of any alcohol beverages and drugs. When a driver is impaired with alcohol or drugs, their judgments on what’s ahead of them or behind them isn’t as strong as when they are sober, driving.

Driving under the influence of any drugs is prohibited under this law, even medications. For example, if you are taking an anti-depressant every morning and you notice that it is making you sleep, then you should not operate a vehicle to prevent danger to yourself and others around you.

Because there was a collision on a freeway, the driver may have driven along the roadway without doing so safely. If that’s the case, investigators may review California Vehicle Code 22107 which prohibits turning from a direct course or moving left or right upon a roadway until it is safe to do so. It is very common for drivers to disobey this law, especially when they are in a rush to get somewhere. These two code laws may help investigators determine the potential cause of why the green toyota vehicle struck Francis Donis.
