Good Hope, CA (April 7, 2024) In the unincorporated area of Good Hope, in Riverside County, a bicyclist, identified as Jaime Gutierrez, 35, was riding along Highway 74. As Gutierrez approached Taylor Road, the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck struck the bicycle, killing Gutierrez, officers said. The 911 call came in at approximately 5:14 p.m. on Saturday evening, April 6th, according to reports.
Gutierrez was riding a bicycle along the dirt shoulder of the highway as the Toyota approached. For reasons still unknown, the pickup struck the bicyclist near Taylor Road. Gutierrez was thrown from the bicycle and landed on the dirt shoulder of the highway. The bicycle landed on the side of the highway, several feet from the rider. The driver of the pickup immediately stopped and waited for police officers to arrive.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene, which was near Lake Matthews, and found the damaged bicycle lying on the dirt shoulder of Highway 74. Gutierrez was lying several feet away, motionless, according to the California Highway Patrol. Paramedics with the Riverside County Fire Department rushed to give life-saving aid to the biker. Unfortunately, Gutierrez was unresponsive and there was nothing paramedics could do. Sadly, the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators spoke with the driver of the Toyota Tacoma and gathered evidence at the scene. They are determined to learn what happened to cause this fatal bicycle collision on Highway 74 in Good Hope.
