Los Angeles, CA (April 7, 2024) A tragic accident occurred on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway in Los Angeles early on Sunday morning. One person lost their life and three others were seriously injured in this accident. It all happened just before 2:00 a.m., according to Mark McLean, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
As vehicles traveled along the Interstate 10 Freeway in Los Angeles, an accident suddenly took place in the westbound lanes. Near the Overland Avenue exit, a blue Tesla sedan was in the westbound lanes, traveling east. The vehicle collided head-on with three other vehicles, according to authorities.
The California Highway Patrol rushed to the scene and found four vehicles with major damage. Debris and glass were strewn about the roadway in all directions. Officers were forced to close all westbound lanes of Interstate 10. They issued a SigAlert and asked drivers to take an alternate route.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department hurried to help anyone in need of medical attention. They found one person who had been killed in the collision and pronounced them dead at the scene. Three other people were found with serious injuries. McLean reported that more than one person was trapped in the wreckage following this deadly collision. Firefighters had to use specialized hydraulic tools along with special techniques to free the victims from the smashed and twisted vehicle(s). Three people were seriously injured in this collision. Paramedics rushed them to a local hospital to receive treatment for major injuries.
Officers worked the scene to determine what exactly happened on Interstate 10, in the middle of the night, on that April morning. Crews had to clean the roadway of glass and debris and tow trucks were called to remove badly wrecked vehicles from the freeway. Mark MeLean with the LAFD has stated that this investigation is ongoing.
