Hayward, CA (November 6, 2023) A passenger was killed on Sunday morning, November 5th, when the car she was in crashed into a tree in Hayward. The driver was also seriously injured in the collision, according to police officers. The crash happened shortly after 2:00 a.m. near the intersection of Magna Avenue and Winton Avenue. Police officers reported that this collision is Hayward’s 10th fatal accident this year.
A 911 call came through about a single-vehicle crash, according to the Hayward Police Department. They responded to the scene to find a vehicle that had slammed into a tree. Upon further investigation, officers learned that the driver had failed to make a turn from southbound D Street onto westbound Winton Avenue.

Officers discovered the passenger of the vehicle, a 37-year-old woman from Richmond, was unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, a 46-year-old Oakland man, was critically injured in this accident. Paramedics at the scene took him to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.
The two people’s names are being withheld until the next of kin is notified, according to the Alameda County Coroner’s Office.
A tow truck had to be called to remove the severely damaged vehicle from the scene, as well. Officers are still investigating this fatal collision.
