(Palmdale, CA) A 31-year-old man from Lancaster lost his life in a deadly Avenue N collision on Friday evening that involved four vehicles and ended with two arrests, according to the California Highway Patrol.
On Friday, September 19, at about 5:10 p.m., officers responded to reports of a serious crash near Avenue N and 22nd Street West. Investigators said a 25-year-old man, identified as K. Littiz of Compton, was driving a 2008 Mercedes-Benz westbound at high speed. He attempted to pass another vehicle by using the north shoulder, lost control, and veered into eastbound lanes.
The Mercedes first collided with a 2021 Lexus IS and then struck a 2022 Honda HR-V head-on. A 2019 Honda Accord also sustained damage from flying debris. Tragically, the 31-year-old Lancaster man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three others, including a 32-year-old Palmdale man, suffered injuries ranging from moderate to severe and were transported to Antelope Valley Medical Center. Littiz and his passenger, 22-year-old K. Wright, fled the crash site but were later located and arrested. Authorities believe drug impairment contributed to the Avenue N collision.
Hit and runs are a serious and delicate situation. The state of California takes these cases very seriously. It’s important for all drivers to know what to do in a hit-and-run.
Legal Perspective on the Avenue N Collision
This case raises multiple legal concerns, both criminal and civil. Under California law, leaving the scene of a deadly crash has serious consequences. According to California Vehicle Code 20001, drivers involved in accidents causing injury or death must remain at the scene, provide assistance, and cooperate with authorities. Littiz’s decision to flee violated this statute, which carries felony penalties.
Drug use also makes California Vehicle Code 23153 relevant. This law prohibits driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs when the impairment causes injury or death. If toxicology tests confirm drug use, Littiz may face prosecution under this statute. Speed and reckless driving are also critical factors. California Vehicle Code 22350, the Basic Speed Law, requires motorists to drive only at speeds safe for conditions. Attempting a high-speed shoulder pass clearly falls outside safe driving behavior. Additionally, California Vehicle Code 21651 prohibits driving over medians or into oncoming lanes, which directly led to the fatal head-on crash.
Because a life was lost, the victim’s family has the right to pursue a wrongful death claim under California Code of Civil Procedure 377.60. Surviving victims may also file personal injury claims for medical bills, rehabilitation costs, lost income, and emotional suffering.
How the Family Can Move Forward
For the family grieving the sudden loss of their loved one, legal action can help secure accountability and financial stability. A wrongful death attorney can obtain the CHP report, gather witness statements, and consult accident reconstruction experts to build a strong case. The injured survivors also have legal rights. By working with personal injury lawyers, they may recover compensation for their medical care and long-term needs.
The Avenue N collision is a devastating reminder of how reckless choices can destroy lives. Acting quickly with legal guidance ensures the victims’ rights are protected and justice is pursued.
