Needles, CA (March 15, 2024) A traumatic and shocking accident occurred in Needles this morning, claiming the life of one and seriously injuring a child. The California Highway Patrol reported that the collision was between a big rig and a pickup truck near the California-Arizona border. The vehicles were driving along Highway 40 when they collided at approximately 9:20 a.m.

A dark gray Nissan Titan pickup truck was driving down the highway when it was suddenly T-boned by a semi-truck. The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene to find the vehicles blocking the highway. They had to close the East Broadway Street off ramp following the collision so emergency crews could do their jobs. The pickup truck was severely damaged and the debris and glass were scattered all over the roadway.

Paramedics rushed to give medical aid to those in need and sadly, found one person with fatal injuries. With heavy hearts, they pronounced the victim dead at the scene. They also found a child who ha sustained serious injuries in the collision. Officers requested an air ambulance, which arrived quickly and took the child to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigators worked diligently to search the area for evidence and are continuing the investigation until they determine what caused this deadly accident. They also called a tow truck to come and remove the Nissan pickup, which was completely destroyed in the collision.
