(Fort Collins, Colorado) A pick-up driver strikes pedestrians on the annual Tour de Fat celebration leaving one dead and 5 others injured in Fort Collins, Colorado.
According to Fort Collins Police, the driver fatally struck one person and injured five others using their pick up truck on a sidewalk along Mountain Avenue in Old Town Fort Collins on Saturday, August 29th.
The Fort Collins Police Department received many calls in regards to the collision at around 11:44 P.M on Saturday. The collision occurred at an annual celebration called Tour de Fat celebrations. It is an annual costume bicycle festival where bicyclists come together to Old Town Fort Collins.
The six individuals were taken to the hospital. Three were taken to the UCHealth Poudre Valley. The three others were taken to the UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies. Information about their injuries have not been released to the public.
Preliminary Investigation showed that the vehicle reversed from a parking lot space along Mountain Avenue. The vehicle then hit another vehicle and then drove onto the sidewalk, hitting the pedestrians. The driver then hit a tree as their last stop.
Police believe that the six individuals were not planned targets. Investigations are currently ongoing and impairment may have played a factor in this collision.
