(Hollywood, CA) A pedestrian was killed in a northbound 101 Freeway collision early Thursday morning, April 9, after being struck by a vehicle near an on-ramp.

California Highway Patrol officers responded around 12:42 a.m. to the northbound Hollywood (101) Freeway at the Gower Street on-ramp. Investigators said they found the pedestrian lying in the No. 4 lane after being struck by at least one vehicle. The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under review.

Emergency responders arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the person’s name, age, or gender. That information remained unknown as the investigation continued.

Officials have not said how the pedestrian entered the freeway or whether multiple vehicles were involved. The investigation remains ongoing as CHP works to determine what led to the fatal incident.

Analysis On The Northbound 101 Freeway Collision

When a fatal pedestrian crash occurs on a freeway, investigators review traffic laws to understand contributing factors. These reviews focus on roadway access, driver awareness, and safe speeds without assigning fault prematurely.

Because pedestrians are generally prohibited from freeways, officers may examine the Pedestrian Rights and Duties Law. This law restricts pedestrian access on certain highways for safety reasons. Investigators will consider how and why the individual was on the freeway. These details are important in understanding the overall situation.

If visibility or reaction time is a concern, authorities may review the Basic Speed Law. This law requires drivers to operate at speeds that are safe for roadway and traffic conditions. Freeway driving at night can reduce visibility and increase stopping distance. Investigators may evaluate whether speed affected the ability to avoid the collision.

When multiple vehicles may be involved, officers may also consider the Following Distance Law. This law requires drivers to maintain enough space to stop safely. Limited spacing can make it difficult to avoid a person or hazard in the roadway. These factors may help explain what led to the northbound 101 Freeway collision.

    What the Family Can Do

If you have lost a loved one in this incident, staying in contact with the California Highway Patrol can help you receive updates. You can request official reports when they become available to better understand the findings.

You may also consider speaking with a qualified attorney who can explain your options. In addition, support from family, friends, and grief counseling services can provide comfort during this difficult time.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
