Legal Analysis on the Western Avenue Vehicle Crash
When a suspect flees from authorities and strikes another vehicle, investigators may review speed laws. They may also review tailgating laws to determine what specific violation the suspect has disobeyed.
Since the driver was fleeing from authorities and put others in danger, they have violated the California Vehicle Code 2800.2. This law specifically prohibits that and discusses consequences the driver may face. The driver may face a fine of $1,000 to $10,000 and face imprisonment at the state prison or county jail for 6 months to a year.
Because the driver was fleeing from authorities, they may have sped above the legal limit causing them to hit a vehicle. If that was the case with the suspect, investigators may review California Vehicle Code 22350. This law specifically prohibits drivers to speed above the reasonable speed in regard to weather, traffic on, visibility or speed that can endanger a property or others.
