(Los Angeles, CA) A 34-year-old woman was killed in a Manchester Avenue collision after being struck by a hit-and-run vehicle Saturday night, April 11.

The incident occurred around 10:50 p.m. at the intersection of Manchester Avenue and Budlong Avenue in South Los Angeles. Authorities said the woman walked northbound within a marked crosswalk when a black sedan struck her. The driver did not stop and fled the scene immediately after the collision.

Officials did not clarify whether the woman died at the scene or after being transported to a hospital. Her identity has not been further detailed beyond her age. Details about the suspect vehicle remain limited.

The Los Angeles Police Department is continuing its investigation and is asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver. A reward is being offered for information that leads to the suspect’s identification, arrest, and conviction. Authorities urged anyone with information to come forward.

Analysis of the Manchester Avenue Collision

When a fatal pedestrian crash involves a driver fleeing the scene, investigators review traffic laws carefully to understand contributing factors without assigning fault prematurely. These reviews often focus on pedestrian right-of-way, driver responsibility, and actions following the collision.

Because the woman was in a marked crosswalk, officers will likely examine the Pedestrian Right-of-Way Law. This law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians crossing within marked or unmarked crosswalks. If the pedestrian had the right-of-way, investigators will assess whether the driver failed to yield as required. Crosswalk visibility and signal timing may also be reviewed.

Since the driver left the scene, authorities may also consider the Hit-and-Run Law. This law requires drivers involved in injury or fatal crashes to stop, provide identification, and render aid. Leaving the scene can delay emergency response and complicate efforts to gather evidence. Investigators will work to determine how the driver fled and whether cameras or witnesses can assist.

If speed or nighttime visibility played a role, police may review the Basic Speed Law. This law requires drivers to travel at speeds that are safe for roadway and lighting conditions. Reduced visibility at night can increase stopping distance and risk to pedestrians. These factors are often central to understanding a Manchester Avenue collision.

You may also consider speaking with a qualified legal professional experienced in pedestrian and hit-and-run cases. They can explain your options and help guide you through next steps.
