(Laguna Beach, CA) A woman died Tuesday morning, March 3, after being struck by two vehicles in a Coast Highway collision.

According to the Laguna Beach Police Department, the incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. at the parking lot of the 7-Eleven store located at 31702 Coast Highway, between Second and Third avenues. Investigators said the crash involved vehicles operated by service providers for CR&R Trash Services and Belshire Environmental Services.

Authorities reported that the woman was struck by both vehicles during the incident in the parking lot area. Emergency responders transported her to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo for treatment. Despite medical efforts, she was later pronounced dead.

Officials did not immediately release the woman’s name, age, or city of residence. That information remained pending notification of next of kin. Police also did not clarify how the vehicles were maneuvering at the time or the precise sequence of events that led to the collision.

Investigators continued reviewing evidence and speaking with witnesses as the cause of the Coast Highway collision remained under active investigation.

Perspective on the Coast Highway Collision

When a fatal pedestrian incident occurs in a parking lot involving service vehicles, investigators review traffic safety laws to understand what factors may have contributed, without assigning fault prematurely. These reviews often focus on safe vehicle movement and driver awareness in confined areas.

Because the incident reportedly occurred while vehicles were maneuvering in a parking lot, authorities may examine the Unsafe Backing Law. This law requires drivers to ensure that a vehicle can be moved in reverse with reasonable safety and without interfering with other persons. Investigators often review driver visibility and surrounding obstacles.

Officials may also consider the Unsafe Turning or Movement Law. This statute requires drivers to ensure that any turning or directional movement can be made safely before proceeding. In parking areas with pedestrians and multiple vehicles, careful maneuvering is especially important.

Investigators may further analyze the Basic Speed Law if speed becomes relevant. This law requires motorists to drive at speeds reasonable for traffic and surrounding conditions. These combined statutes help guide authorities’ evaluation of the Coast Highway collision as evidence continues to be reviewed.

    Help for the Family

If you are related to the woman who died or are supporting her loved ones, staying in contact with investigators can help you receive updates and request official police and coroner reports when they become available.

You may also consider speaking with a qualified legal professional to better understand your options after a fatal pedestrian incident. Emotional support from family members, friends, or grief counseling services can be important during a sudden and painful loss.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
