(Tucson, Arizona) 11 year old boy was killed just near the Gladden Farms area, yesterday in Marana as he was riding his bicycle.

The Marina Police Department  confirmed that the incident occurred near North Midfield and West Hanack Drive. The light colored sedan vehicle was going northbound on Midfield when the driver struck the boy. The 11-year old was crossing Midfield in an unmarked cross-walk while going eastbound with a helmet on.

SGT Vincent Rizzi from Marana Police Department says that the investigation is ongoing and it might take a while.

    Analysis on Midfield Collision

Investigators may want to review code 28-793  to identify whether the vehicle driver violated this law. (1) It states that anyone crossing an unmarked/marked crosswalk has to yield to the vehicles. In this case the 11 year old may have violated this law but there can also other laws that puts the driver in a position to be at fault.

If the driver was speeding then they may have violated code law 28-701. (A) This code states one of the following that drivers can not drive with an increase of speed than reasonable or prudent in regards to potential hazards. They also state that drivers have to control the speed of their vehicle to avoid colliding with a person, vehicle or object. This shows that the driver may have also violated this law since he collided with the 11 year old individual but that would also depend if he was driving at an increased speed that put the 11 year old at risk.

    Advice for the Family

If you have lost a loved one in this incident, staying in contact with the The Marina Police Department  can help you receive more information from the investigation. You can request official reports when they become available to better understand the circumstances.
