(El Cajon, CA) A woman and two young children sustained multiple injuries Saturday night, January 10, in a North Mollison Avenue collision.

The El Cajon Police Department said officers dispatched at around 8:15 p.m. to the 1600 block of North Mollison Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle had struck a gate and a tree before hitting a parked car delivering food.

Police said a 59-year-old woman, a 7-year-old girl, and a 3-year-old girl sat inside the delivery vehicle at the time of the crash. All three suffered injuries with paramedics transporting them to area hospitals for treatment. Authorities did not immediately release details about the severity of their injuries.

The delivery driver did not sustain any injuries, police said. Officers arrested the other driver under suspicion of driving under the influence. Investigators did not release the suspect’s name or additional details about what led up to the collision.

Analysis on the North Mollison Avenue Collision

When a suspected DUI crash occurs on a residential street, investigators review traffic safety laws. These reviews focus on impairment, speed, and the duty to operate a vehicle safely around others.

Because police arrested the driver on suspicion of impairment, investigators will closely examine the Driving Under the Influence Law. This law prohibits operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs. Impairment can severely limit reaction time and judgment, increasing the risk of losing control and striking fixed objects or parked vehicles.

Since the crash involved a parked vehicle occupied by passengers, authorities may also review the Basic Speed Law. This law requires drivers to travel at speeds reasonable for traffic, visibility, and roadway conditions. Even on neighborhood streets, excessive speed can make it difficult to avoid obstacles and respond to unexpected conditions.

Investigators may additionally consider the Unsafe Turning Law, which requires drivers to ensure any movement or maneuver can be made with reasonable safety. Collisions involving gates, trees, and parked vehicles often raise questions about loss of control and driver attentiveness. These statutes help guide the investigation into what may have led to the North Mollison Avenue collision as evidence is reviewed.

    Guidance for the Family

If you or your children were injured in a suspected DUI crash, staying in contact with investigators can help you receive updates and obtain the official police report when it becomes available.

You may also consider speaking with a legal professional experienced in DUI-related injury cases to better understand your options. Prioritizing medical follow-up, emotional support, and recovery resources can help your family navigate the days ahead.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
