(Glendale, California) Authorities received a report on a crash that killed 33-year-old George Rangel Jr, was made at 3:30 p.m. on October 19th, occurring on the Glendale (2) Freeway involving two work vehicles.

A bystander of the crash site told the California Highway Patrol that a white truck barrel rolled. An individual was in the rolled over vehicle. Lanes 2 to 5 were not open until 10:45 p.m.

Legal Analysis on the Death of George Rangel Jr

Based on the given information, DUI laws will likely be reviewed by investigators to help determine whether impairment could have been one of the reasons that caused the fatal freeway crash. Based on the impact of the rolled vehicle, investigators may review speed laws

Possibly, the driver was driving at a speed rate above the legal limit causing the fatal collision. Under California Vehicle Code 22350, it is a violation to drive above the reasonable speed. If the driver specifically sped over 100 mph, then they violated California Vehicle Code 22348 to which it prohibits driving above 100 mph. It is likely that the driver could face a fine of $500 under a first conviction. Upon a second conviction results in a fine of $750 and the Department of Motor Vehicles can also take your driving privileges.

If the drivers of the freeway crash were operating their vehicle while under the influence, they have violated California Vehicle Code 23152. Since both work vehicles were involved, it’s possible that they may be commercial vehicles. In this case, if the driver (s) drove with an unlawful limit of 0.05% alcohol in their system or more, they may be charged with serious consequences. If proven, under California Penal Code 191.5 could be imprisoned for four or up to six years at the state prison.
