Tehama County, CA (March 25, 2024) Tragedy struck on Highway 99 in Tehama County on Friday morning. A head-on collision at Palm Street left one man dead and sent 54-year-old Kirk Brown, a Redding resident, to a hospital with serious injuries.
It was Friday morning, March 22nd, as vehicles drove along Highway 99. A 2015 Nissan Sentra, driven by a 35-year-old man, was driving north when they swerved into oncoming traffic. Kirk Brown was heading south in a 2019 Volkswagen as the Nissan crossed the double yellow lines on the highway. Brown had no time to react and the two vehicles slammed into each other, head-on.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene, along with paramedics, and found both vehicles in the middle of the road with major damage. The driver of the Nissan sustained life-threatening injuries in the collision and was airlifted to Enloe Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to authorities.
The driver of the Volkswagen, Kirk Brown, was also seriously injured in this head-on crash. He was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital via ambulance to receive treatment for serious injuries.
Investigators gathered evidence at the scene and are determined to understand what caused the Nissan to cross into oncoming traffic on Friday morning. Crews had to clean glass and debris from the roadway and tow trucks were called to remove both vehicles from the scene.
