The fatal accident happened minutes before 10:00 p.m. at the intersection of Garfield Avenue and Whittier Boulevard, according to reports. It was a summer night in Montebello as a pedestrian walked near the intersection of Garfield Avenue and Whittier Boulevard. As he walked, a vehicle neared the same intersection. Suddenly, things took a deadly and disastrous turn as the vehicle struck the pedestrian. The force sent the victim through the air before he landed, hard, on the ground. The driver of the vehicle hit the gas and fled the scene, officers reported, leaving the victim on the side of the road.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian on the ground. He wasn’t moving, nor did it look like he was breathing. First responders hurried to his side and began life-saving measures. Sadly, he had succumbed to his injuries and there was nothing they could do. With heavy hearts, they pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene and requested the coroner.
Detectives at the scene gathered any they could find and are working to piece together the type of vehicle that struck the pedestrian. They are also hoping to find the vehicle and bring the responsible driver to justice for this hit-and-run death in Montebello.
