Los Angeles, CA (July 23, 2024) A street race in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon, July 22nd, ended in a collision, police officers reported. The accident occurred just after 2:00 p.m. and left at least one person with injuries. The two vehicles were racing on Interstate 5, in the State Street on-ramp, reports indicated.

The streets of Los Angeles became unsafe for commuters on Monday afternoon as two vehicles raced each other on Interstate 5 in Los Angeles. Initial reports indicated that a black SUV and a black Ford Expedition began racing each other on the busy Interstate 5 Freeway. Both drivers seemed to lose control at the same time and the two vehicles slammed into two other vehicles on the freeway. The two vehicles hit, a black Toyota and a black Honda sustained serious damage in the collision, reports indicated. One of the vehicles involved began smoking, witnesses said, and eventually became engulfed in flames.

Emergency personnel with the Los Angeles Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol quickly arrived at the scene. Firefighters immediately worked to extinguish the flames and officers searched the vehicles, ready to help anyone in need of medical care. Reports suggest that at least one person was injured in this fiery collision. Paramedics loaded the injured into an ambulance and transported them to a local hospital to receive medical attention.

Officers at the scene began gathering as much evidence as they could find and took statements from those who witnessed the accident, as well as those involved. Tow trucks were requested to remove damaged vehicles from the roadway, according to reports. Crews worked as quickly as they could to remove the glass and debris from the freeway to allow traffic to resume on that stretch of Interstate 5.
