The woman was riding a bicycle on Wednesday morning, June 19th, when she was struck and killed by a semi-truck. The tragic accident occurred around 9:45 a.m. on Deshutes Road, according to reports.
It was almost 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19th, as a 19-year-old woman rode a bicycle through Cottonwood. She was heading west and crossed Deshutes Road as a semi-truck approached from the east. The bicyclist crossed directly in the path of the semi-truck, according to reports. The truck struck the bicyclist, sending the rider flying from the bike. She landed several feet away and remained motionless on the ground.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the bicycle completely bent on the ground. Several feet away laid the rider. Officers began life-saving measures but, sadly, she had already succumbed to her injuries. With heavy hearts, they pronounced the 19-year-old dead at the scene and called for a coroner. The truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police officers during their investigation.
The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into this fatal accident. They are asking witnesses to call 580-225-0500 with any information they might have. Officers are determined to learn what exactly happened to cause this tragic accident, as well and who was at fault. The twist heap of metal that was once a bicycle was hauled from the scene once officers were finished gathering evidence.
