Las Vegas, CA (May 2, 2024) Accidents can happen anywhere, at anytime, to anyone. The community of western Las Vegas was reminded of this on Tuesday afternoon. A bicyclist was struck while riding along Lake Mead at approximately 3:21 p.m. The rider sustained serious injuries in the collision, reports indicated, but is expected to make a full recovery.

Vehicles drove along Lake Mead, avoiding a bicyclist in western Las Vegas. Right around 3:21 p.m., in the 4000 block of Lake Mead, a sedan approached the bicyclist. Without warning, the sedan hit the bicyclist, throwing the rider onto the ground. The bicycle skidded across the road before coming to a stop, in a dented and broken mess. The driver of the sedan immediately stopped and waited for police officers to arrive at the scene.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene and found the bicyclist on the ground. They were seriously injured, but coherent and talking, reports indicated. Officers began directing traffic away from the scene and closed Lake Mead from Decatour to Rancho. When paramedics arrived, they carefully lifted the bicyclist and placed them on a stretcher. The injured rider was loaded into an ambulance and taken to a local hospital to receive treatment. They are currently listed in stable condition, according to reports.

Officers investigated the scene and spoke with the driver of the sedan, who was very cooperative. The investigation continues as officers work to determine what caused this accident on Lake Mead. The bicycle had to be removed from the scene and the road was still closed at 9:00 p.m.
