Richmond, CA (October 27, 2023) A pedestrian was struck and killed on Wednesday night, October 25th, near the Richmond San Rafael Bridge on the westbound Interstate 580 Freeway. According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident took place at the Bayview Avenue off-ramp.
The pedestrian was crossing the street around 10:25 p.m. when they were hit by a vehicle in the No. 3 lane of the Interstate 580 Freeway. The vehicle stopped, blocking the roadway, and waited for police officers to arrive following the collision.

The Richmond Fire Department responded to the scene, ready to help the pedestrian. However, they found the victim unresponsive and pronounced them dead at the scene. The time of day and the dim-lit freeway made it difficult for the driver to see the pedestrian until it was too late. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police officers after the accident.
