(Palmdale, California) Last Wednesday, a woman who was struck by a vehicle was identified on September 21st as Lizbeth Molina, 23, who died at the intersection of Sierra Highway and Avenue P.
According to the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office, Molina died from blunt force traumatic injuries and listed her manner of death as accidental. According to Lt. L. Arnold of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Palmdale Stations, a passerby reported Molina as she was laid onto the road as vehicles drove around her.
The cause was not cleared as a hit-and-run investigation.
Legal Analysis on the Sierra Highway and Avenue P. Crash
Based on the little information we know, we can only assume so little. But based on Molina’s injuries, she may have been struck by a speeding vehicle. If that was the case, investigators may review California Vehicle Code 22350 to which it prohibits driving with a speed more than reasonable in regards to weather, traffic, visibility, traffic, surface and width or putting others or property in danger. This is an important law that may relate to this collision because if a driver did strike Molina and left the scene, they may have violated this law due to risking Molina’s safety.
If investigators want to discuss punishments and specific speeds a driver may have driven above the legal limit, investigators may look into California Vehicle Code 22348 which prohibits driving greater than 100 mph is guilty of an infraction.
The violations listed for infraction are:
- fined at least $500 with the court potentially suspending your drivers license for at least 30 days,
- getting a second offense within three years from the first offense will result in a fine of at least $750 with the Department of motor vehicles suspending your drivers license.
- If the driver is convicted with more than two or more offenses within five years, they will be fined $1,000 and the Department of motor vehicles will suspend their drivers license.
