(Palmdale, California) Investigation continues for a woman who was possibly struck by a vehicle on Sierra highway and Avenue P.

At 11:20 p.m. deputies responded to a report of a woman who was laying down while vehicles were passing by her in the intersection of Sierra Highway and Avenue P. The cause of the woman’s death has not been identified, but according to Watch Commander Arnold of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Palmdale Station, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sheriff’s deputies continued to investigate the scene but the cause of death is still unknown.

Sierra Highway was temporarily shut down but now remains open.

Legal Analysis on the Sierra Highway and Avenue P. Crash

Because investigation continued in regards to a woman struck by a vehicle, it is possible that this is a hit-and-run accident which in that case, investigators may want to review if one flees the scene in regards to car accidents involving injury or death, California Vehicle Code 20001(a) which requires drivers stay at the scene and to fulfill Sections 20003 and 20004. Under California Vehicle Code 20001 (C) if one does flee from the scene after causing vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, they can be punished to five years in prison.

California Vehicle Code 20003 may be reviewed as it requires drivers to report their name, address, injured passenger’s address, vehicle’s registration numbers as well as any requirements listed in this code that should be reported to traffic or police officers.

If traffic or police officers are not at the scene, California Vehicle Code 20004 requires anyone involved in an accident involving death to report their information, required in Section 20003, to the nearest office of the Department of the California Highway Patrol or office of a duly authorized police authority. Not following these code laws can result in imprisonment at a county jail, state prison or fined to $1,000 to $10,000 or by both.
