(I-80, California) A fiery crash occurred on Wednesday when a pick up truck hauling a trailer crashed with an SUV leading the truck to get caught on fire just before 7:30 a.m., on I-80 near Sierra College Boulevard.

According to the California Highway Patrol log, the pickup truck contained gasoline canisters that were explosive.

The crash blocked off all westbound lanes of I-80 including the eastbound lanes.

There has not been any confirmation if injuries were involved and other circumstances in regards to the collision.

    Analysis on I-80

Because the collision involved gasoline canisters, investigators may want to see if the vehicle had any place cards in regards to the gasoline canisters. In California Code, VEH 27903 it states that any vehicle transporting explosive, blasting agent, flammable liquid, flammable solid, oxidizing material, corrosive, compressed gas, poison, radioactive material, or any other hazardous materials require place cards or marketing on the exterior of the vehicle.

This is an important factor because such awareness can help drivers create a safe distance between their vehicle and the hazardous vehicle.

If the vehicle containing gasoline canisters while driving in a crowded traffic highway, investigators may view California Code, VEH 31303. This can help identify what the driver specifically violated. This code discusses that transporters should avoid, whenever practicable, congested thoroughfares, crowded places and residence districts, specified in Section 515.

If the driver was speeding which led the vehicle to get caught on fire, investigators may view California Code, VEH 22406.  One of the following violations is that driving above 55 miles per hour while transporting explosives is unlawful.
