(LA Crescenta, California) Yesterday, two big rigs collided resulted in a spilling of cargo on the westbound 210 freeway. This led to three taken to a hospital.
California Highway Patrol Confirmed. The incident was reported at 10:55 a.m. near Pennsylvania Avenue on La Cañada Flintridge. The Los Angeles County Fire Department said that at least one of the big rigs overturned which led to the spill of cargo going onto the freeway.
The collision caused the westbound to shut down with at least the center divider open for drivers. Both semi-trucks were damaged.
Perspective on Westbound 210 Freeway:
Investigators may want to review the California Vehicle Code, 24002 to determine whether the drivers/vehicles were equipped to drive or ignored risks of unsafety. In (a) it states that it is unlawful to operate a vehicle (s) in unsafe conditions or is unsafely loaded. This is an important rule that drivers have to follow. One of the reasons that this law may have been put into place was to prevent such hazard risks in roads or highways as possible. Some packaged liquid or hazards can affect other drivers around a hazard vehicle carrying such a thing. Some oil spills can cause toxicity in a person’s body.
Another law investigators may look at is (C). This may help them rule out whether the driver was trained or experienced to drive a heavy load vehicle. One of the followings that this code states are “A motor carrier shall not require a person to drive a commercial motor vehicle unless the driver can, by reason of experience, training, or both, determine whether the cargo being transported.” This code means that motor carriers should not let owners drive a commercial vehicle unless they have an experience/training or both and that also knows how the cargo should be transported.
