(Brentwood, CA) Police are seeking the public’s help identifying a driver who severely injured a pedestrian in a Bringham Avenue hit-and-run collision.

The collision occurred at approximately 12:35 a.m. on January 19. According to reports, a black Toyota Prius traveled southbound on Bringham Avenue. The vehicle struck a male pedestrian who was in the southbound lanes of Bringham Avenue, north of Gorham Avenue. After the crash, the driver fled southbound on Bringham Avenue toward San Vicente Boulevard. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported the victim to a hospital for treatment of severe injuries.

Police did not immediately release the victim’s name or condition. The driver of the Prius has not been identified. No arrests have been made in connection with the Bringham Avenue hit-and-run. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to identification and arrest. Video of the collision is available online for public review. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to locate the suspect.

Analysis of the Bringham Avenue Hit-and-Run

When a hit-and-run collision causes severe injury, police examine traffic laws carefully. They work to identify the responsible driver and vehicle. They work to understand what happened at the scene. These investigations focus on driver responsibility and legal duty to stop.

Officers examine the Hit-and-Run Law. This law requires drivers involved in collisions to stop immediately. They must provide identifying information and render reasonable aid. Leaving the scene is a serious crime. It can result in criminal charges and substantial penalties upon arrest and conviction.

Authorities may also review the Duty of Care to Pedestrians Law. This law requires drivers to exercise care and watch for pedestrians. Drivers must try to avoid hitting people on foot. This applies whether pedestrians are in crosswalks or not. Pedestrians have special legal protections under traffic law.

Police may further examine the Basic Speed Law. This law requires drivers to travel at safe speeds. Speeds must match road conditions and visibility. Late-night collisions often involve excessive speed. These laws help explain what may have led to the Bringham Avenue hit-and-run.

    What the Family Can Do

If you know the victim or are supporting the family, contact Los Angeles Police. The LAPD West Traffic Division handles this case. You can provide updates to help the investigation move forward. Severe injury recovery requires ongoing medical care and support.

An attorney with hit-and-run experience can help significantly. They can explain your legal rights and options. They can help with insurance and liability issues. Recovery from serious injury is difficult and lengthy. Support from family, friends, and medical professionals is essential during healing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact LAPD West Traffic Division at 213-473-0234. Calls during non-business hours should be directed to 877-527-3247. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or lacrimestoppers.org. A $25,000 reward is being offered for information leading to identification and arrest.
