(Phoenix, AZ) A man was seriously injured early Monday morning, January 12, after being struck by a vehicle in a 27th Avenue accident in central Phoenix.

Phoenix police said officers received calls shortly after 5 a.m. regarding an accident near 27th Avenue and Buckeye Road. When they arrived, they found a man who had been hit by a car, suffering from serious injuries. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he remained in serious condition later in the morning.

Investigators said the driver involved in the collision stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Police did not release the identities of either the driver or the injured pedestrian. Police did not mentioned where the man stood at the time of the crash.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, with no further information being released.

Overview on the 27th Avenue Accident

When a pedestrian is seriously injured on a major roadway, investigators review traffic safety laws to understand what factors may have contributed, without assigning fault prematurely. These reviews focus on pedestrian right-of-way, driver attention, and roadway conditions.

If the victim crossed the street outside of a designated crossing area, investigators may examine the Pedestrian Right-of-Way Law. This law requires pedestrians crossing outside a marked or unmarked crosswalk to yield the right-of-way to vehicles close enough to pose an immediate hazard.

Because the collision occurred before sunrise, authorities may also review the Reasonable and Prudent Speed Law. This law requires drivers to operate at speeds appropriate for traffic, visibility, and roadway conditions. Reduced lighting in early morning hours can limit reaction time and make it harder for drivers to detect pedestrians.

Investigators may additionally consider the Due Care Law, which requires drivers to exercise due care to avoid colliding with pedestrians and to give warning when necessary. The law still expects drivers to take reasonable steps to prevent a collision. These statutes help guide the review of evidence in the 27th Avenue accident as police continue their investigation.

    Guidance for the Family

If you or a loved one was injured in a pedestrian crash, staying in contact with investigators can help you receive updates and request the official police report when it becomes available.

You may also want to consider speaking with a legal professional experienced in serious pedestrian injury cases to better understand your options. Prioritizing medical care, follow-up treatment, and emotional support can make a meaningful difference during a difficult recovery period.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
