(Clovis, CA) A man riding an electric scooter was seriously hurt Saturday afternoon, December 6, in a Clovis Avenue accident at the intersection of Clovis and Santa Ana avenues.

Officers said they responded just after 12:30 p.m. They learned that the man had been crossing Clovis Avenue in the marked crosswalk. At that moment, an oncoming vehicle struck him. The collision ultimately involved three vehicles along with the e-scooter rider.

Paramedics transported the man to a local hospital with major injuries. His current condition remains unknown. Police noted that all drivers stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Officials added there was no indication that alcohol or drugs contributed.

Opinion on the Clovis Avenue Accident

Because this collision involved a pedestrian-type user in a crosswalk, investigators will evaluate several traffic safety statutes. When a driver strikes someone legally crossing the street, officers examine the Pedestrian Right-of-Way Law. This statute requires motorists to slow down and yield to anyone in a marked crosswalk. Even with cooperating drivers, investigators will review whether each motorist acted with due care toward the man riding the e-scooter.

If the sequence of events involved unexpected braking or chain reactions among the three vehicles, investigators may also look to the Following Too Closely Law. This law prohibits drivers from following too closely. In a multi-vehicle incident, insufficient spacing can worsen the impact or limit escape paths as a pedestrian or scooter rider crosses.

Because an electric scooter is treated similarly to a bicycle or pedestrian device when crossing, officials sometimes consider compliance with the Operation of Bicycles Law. While police have not indicated any equipment concerns, nighttime or low-visibility factors can shape how investigators evaluate a Clovis Avenue accident and its contributing conditions.

    What the Family Can Do

If you are a family member of the injured man, you should request the official collision report from the Clovis Police Department once it is completed. The report can clarify the event and support any medical or insurance processes.

You may also want to speak with a personal injury attorney experienced in pedestrian and scooter-related crashes. They can help you understand available options for medical cost recovery, long-term care needs, or other assistance.

During this difficult time, try to lean on friends, relatives, and local support resources. Serious injuries are overwhelming, and it is important to take things one step at a time while focusing on your loved one’s recovery.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
