(San Diego, CA) One person was killed early Thursday morning, December 4, in a State Route 805 accident involving a big rig and multiple vehicles.

The crash occurred around 2:50 a.m. on the northbound lanes of State Route 805, just south of University Avenue. Responding officers and emergency crews found several vehicles involved, including a big rig that sustained significant damage.

Paramedics confirmed that one person died at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

The CHP issued a SigAlert at 3:37 a.m., shutting down the transition road connecting northbound SR-805 to northbound SR-15. The closure went on for several hours while investigators processed the scene.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Overview on the State Route 805 Accident

When a crash involves multiple vehicles, including a commercial truck, investigators review several California traffic laws to determine contributing factors. The Basic Speed Law requires all drivers to operate at a speed that is safe for current conditions, including traffic congestion and visibility.

The Following-Too-Closely Law mandates that drivers maintain sufficient distance to allow safe stopping if traffic suddenly slows or stops. Rear-end collisions in multi-vehicle accidents often result from violations of this law. Investigators will examine whether these the motorists involved followed these laws. They will also consider if mechanical failure, driver fatigue, or cargo load played a role in the State Route 805 accident.

    Support for the Family

The victim’s family should stay in contact with the California Highway Patrol’s San Diego Area Office for updates and to request the official collision report once it becomes available. This report will include critical details about the crash and help the family navigate insurance or legal steps.

If the victim was killed due to another driver’s negligence, consulting a wrongful-death attorney experienced in freeway and big rig collisions may help the family understand their legal rights and potential avenues for recovery.

Finally, emotional and community support are vital during this time. Families affected by fatal freeway crashes can reach out to local organizations such as the Trauma Intervention Programs of San Diego or grief counseling centers for comfort and guidance following the State Route 805 accident.
