(San Diego, CA) A 70-year-old woman suffered a broken hip Monday afternoon, December 1, after being struck by a car in a Genesee Avenue accident.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the collision occurred around 1:25 p.m. near Genesee Avenue and Mount Alifan Drive. Investigators learned a woman crossed the street from Genesee Avenue. At the same time, a white Mercedes-Benz attempted a left turn and struck the woman.

Paramedics transported the woman to a nearby hospital for treatment of her injuries. Police have not yet confirmed whether the driver remained at the scene or sustained any injuries.

The SDPD Traffic Division is conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.

Overview on the Genesee Avenue Accident

When a pedestrian is injured in a vehicle collision, investigators review several key California traffic laws to determine fault. The Pedestrian Right-of-Way Law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians crossing within marked or unmarked crosswalks. Even when pedestrians are not in a designated crosswalk, drivers must exercise due care to prevent harm.

The Left Turn or U-Turn Yield Law mandates that drivers making a left turn yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians before proceeding. Failing to do so often leads to intersection-related injuries such as those in this case.

Finally, California Vehicle Code §21950(b) obligates drivers to remain alert and cautious, especially in areas with high foot traffic. These laws will guide investigators as they determine what caused the Genesee Avenue accident.

    Support for the Victim

The injured pedestrian and her family should remain in contact with the San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division to obtain updates and request the official collision report once available. This document will provide important details for medical, insurance, or potential legal claims.

Victims of pedestrian accidents may also benefit from consulting a personal injury attorney who can explain rights under California law and help secure compensation for medical bills, rehabilitation, and other damages.

Finally, recovery after a serious injury can be both physically and emotionally challenging. Local organizations in San Diego County, such as the Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) and hospital-based support groups, can offer resources and assistance to those affected.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
