(Phoenix, AZ) A man was killed early Tuesday morning, December 2, in a 32nd Street crash after being struck by a vehicle in south Phoenix.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, the collision occurred around 6 a.m. near 32nd Street and Broadway Road. Investigators said a white SUV traveled along Broadway. All of a sudden, it struck a man who was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk. Moments later, a sedan traveling nearby struck the SUV.

Emergency responders arrived to find the pedestrian unresponsive in the roadway. They pronounced the victim dead at the scene, police said. Both drivers remained on-site and cooperated with investigators.

Authorities closed Broadway Road in both directions between 32nd Street and 30th Street while officers conducted an on-scene investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Overview on the 32nd Street Crash

In pedestrian fatalities involving multiple vehicles, investigators typically evaluate several key Arizona traffic laws to determine contributing factors. The Pedestrian Roadway Law requires pedestrians crossing outside of a marked crosswalk to yield the right-of-way to vehicles on the road.

However, the Duty to Exercise Due Care Law obligates drivers to remain vigilant and use every reasonable means to avoid striking pedestrians, even if the person is not crossing legally.

The Basic Speed Law further mandates that motorists drive at speeds reasonable and prudent for current conditions. This includes factors such as visibility, road conditions, and traffic density. These statutes will guide investigators in determining how the 32nd Street crash occurred and whether it could have been avoided.

    Support for the Family

The family of the victim should remain in contact with the Phoenix Police Department’s Traffic Bureau for updates on the ongoing investigation and to obtain the official crash report once available. This report will provide detailed findings regarding cause and liability.

Families who lose loved ones in pedestrian accidents may also qualify for assistance through Arizona’s Crime Victim Compensation Program, which helps cover funeral expenses and related costs.

When ready, consider consulting a wrongful-death attorney familiar with Arizona traffic laws to help explore available legal options and ensure the family’s rights are protected.

Finally, lean on community grief support and counseling resources in Maricopa County, which can provide comfort and practical help as you navigate the difficult aftermath of the 32nd Street crash.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
