(Jurupa Valley, CA) A motorcyclist died in a severe two-vehicle Armstrong Road crash in Jurupa Valley.

On Wednesday, August 13, at around 4:50 p.m., the Armstrong Road crash occurred according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. The Jurupa Valley Station said that it happened in the northbound lanes of Armstrong Road, north of 30th Street.

When CHP officers arrived, they found both the motorcyclist and the driver of the other vehicle suffering from injuries. After calling for paramedics, they transported both victims to a hospital, where the motorcyclist died shortly after.

As deputies investigated the Armstrong Road crash, they confirmed alcohol, and drugs did not play a role in the collision. The driver of the other vehicle cooperated with the investigation. Deputies withheld the name of the motorcyclist pending notification of relatives.

Legal Opinion of the Armstrong Road Crash

The Armstrong Road crash that killed the motorcyclist appears to violate California’s right-of-way and safe driving laws. Under California Vehicle Code 22350, the “Basic Speed Law”, all drivers must travel at a speed that is reasonable for conditions. If the driver of the other vehicle turned, changed lanes, or entered the motorcyclist’s path without yielding, VEH 21801 (left turns) or VEH 21804 (entering a highway) could apply.

Motorcycle crashes are often severe due to the rider’s vulnerability. The fact that both drivers were transported to the hospital suggests this was a high-impact collision. Investigators will likely examine skid marks and vehicle damage of the Armstrong Road crash to determine who had the right-of-way. Even in cases where both parties were driving lawfully, a momentary lapse in judgment could result in legal liability if it caused the crash.

The motorcyclist’s family may have grounds for a wrongful death claim under California Code of Civil Procedure 377.60. Compensation can include funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and the value of the financial contributions the motorcyclist would have provided. California’s comparative negligence rule means the family could still recover damages even if the motorcyclist shared some responsibility.

    What the Family Can Do

The family should contact a wrongful death attorney as soon as possible. The attorney can work with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office to obtain the collision report on the Armstrong Road crash. They can also gather physical evidence from the scene, and secure witness statements before they fade from memory. If there were nearby businesses or residences with security cameras, their footage could help reconstruct the crash. Medical records from the hospital will also be important to establish the injuries caused directly by the collision. Even though impairment has been ruled out, proving fault through roadway evidence and testimony will be key. By acting quickly, the family can protect their rights, ensure a thorough investigation, and position themselves for the financial recovery they need in the wake of this tragedy.
