(Ontario, CA) Three people were killed and at least four others were left injured in a tragic 10 Freeway collision in Ontario on Tuesday afternoon, October 21, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred on the westbound 10 Freeway, just east of the 15 Freeway. The dashcam video from the Freightliner truck involved captured the collision. The footage shows the big rig slamming into the rear of an SUV, then crashing into multiple other vehicles in a violent chain reaction.

Authorities arrested the semi-truck driver, 21-year-old Jashanpreet Singh of Yuba City, for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs and vehicular manslaughter. CHP Officer Rodrigo Jimenez said Singh paramedics transported him to a hospital after the crash. After medical staff evaluated Singh, police took him into custody. The truck driver reportedly entered the United States in 2022 and is believed to be in the country illegally.

One victim has been identified as a 54-year-old man from Upland, though his name has not yet been released. The other two victims sustained severe burns, officials working to confirm their identities. The westbound lanes were closed for several hours but later reopened.

Overview on the Tragic 10 Freeway Collision

Authorities are investigating this violent chain-reaction crash. CHP investigators will review vehicle data, toxicology reports, and mechanical inspections of the truck to determine contributing factors.

Under California Vehicle Code 23152, it is illegal to operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If such impairment leads to the death of another person, the offense can escalate to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated under California Penal Code 191.5(a).
