El Centro, CA (August 7, 2024) A two-vehicle collision involving a big rig occurred in El Centro on Wednesday morning, August 7th. The collision left one person with critical injuries, officers reported. It all happened around 9:21 a.m. at the intersection of West Wahl Road and La Brucherie Road in South El Centro.
Initial reports indicated that the big rig entered the intersection at the same time as an SUV. Officers reported that the intersection only has stop signs for vehicles entering Wahl Road from Brucherie Road. The two vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection, reports indicated. The sound of metal colliding filled the air as debris flew in every direction, landing on the ground, forming a field around the two vehicles.
Sirens filled the air as emergency crews hurried to the scene. They arrived to find the SUV badly damaged, its occupants still inside. Paramedics found one person with life-threatening injuries and quickly loaded them into an ambulance. They were rushed to a nearby hospital to receive emergency treatment for their injuries. They remain in serious condition, according to reports. The driver of the semi-truck was unharmed in this accident and no other injuries have been reported at this time.
Officers investigated the scene and took statements. They are diligently working to determine what exactly happened at that El Centro intersection. They are also piecing together who was at fault for this collision. The SUV had to be towed from the scene, following the initial investigation. The debris that had been left behind was quickly swept from the roadway so traffic could continue through the intersection.
Update (8/12): Marcela Suarez Aguilar, 55, has been identified as the woman who had been taken to Desert Regional Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
