San Francisco, CA (March 11, 2024) A driver struck a pedestrian on the Interstate 80 Freeway on Monday morning, March 11th, and then fled the scene. It happened a few minutes after 1:30 a.m., officers said, in the westbound lanes. Sadly, the pedestrian did not survive this awful hit-and-run accident.
It happened just west of the Bay Bridge entrance, in the middle of the night. The pedestrian was walking in the darkness along the interstate when they were suddenly struck by a vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol. The force of the collision threw the pedestrian several feet from the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle hit the gas and fled the scene, leaving the injured pedestrian behind.
Emergency crews hurried to the scene and found the pedestrian lying on the ground with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics did everything they could to save the pedestrian’s life, but before they could take them to a hospital, they passed away from their injuries. With heavy hearts, authorities pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
The Interstate 80 Freeway was closed for several hours as crews cleaned the roadway and investigators gathered evidence to determine what happened. Officers are determined to find the vehicle that struck the pedestrian and in doing so, bring the driver to justice for the death of this pedestrian.
