San Diego, CA (July 25, 2024) The community of San Diego was saddened to learn of a pedestrian’s death on Tuesday night, July 23rd. The pedestrian had been struck by a Costco semi-truck on Interstate 15, just before 10:30 p.m., while walking with another person. The fatal accident occurred near the Clairemont Mesa Boulevard.
Darkness covered the interstate as two pedestrians walked on Tuesday night. Suddenly, a Costco semi-truck approached them, traveling in the slow lane of Interstate 15. Without warning, the semi struck at least one of the pedestrians as they walked. The force from the impact threw one of the victims several feet before they landed on the ground, motionless.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian on the ground. They began administering life-saving techniques, but the victim’s injuries proved to be too severe. Sadly, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by officials. They called for the coroner to come to the scene and respectfully covered the victim’s body with a tarp.

Officers spoke with the truck driver, who remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. They also spoke with the other pedestrian. They are working to determine what caused this fatal pedestrian accident on Interstate 15 in San Diego. At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in this accident. Officers are also trying to determine if the darkness made it difficult for the truck driver to see the pedestrians. They are working diligently to determine what exactly happened on that dark interstate.
