Pine Valley, CA (April 16, 2024) A tragic accident took place in Pine Valley on April 13th. A pedestrian, identified as 61-year-old Mary Stewart, was fatally struck by a pickup truck while walking on the shoulder of Pine Boulevard. The deadly accident happened right around 11:00 a.m., just south of Rocky Pass, near San Diego, reports indicated.
Stewart was walking north on the shoulder of Pine Boulevard on Saturday, April 13th. As she walked, a 2016 Ford F-550 pickup truck, also heading north, approached her from behind. Without warning, the pickup suddenly drifted onto the shoulder of the road. In doing so, it hit Stewart, officers said. She was thrown several feet and landed hard on the ground, sustained life-threatening injuries.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the pickup on the side of the road, its 36-year-old male driver waiting for authorities to arrive. Stewart was lying on the ground with critical injuries. Officers rushed to give the pedestrian life-saving measures, but unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries. Mary Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene and officials awaited the arrival of the coroner from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, according to reports.
Investigators do not suspect drugs or alcohol to be factors in this collision. They are working to determine why the pickup veered off the roadway and onto the shoulder, where the pedestrian was walking.
