MERCED, CA (OCTOBER 16, 2023): A man has died following a hit-and-run collision on a highway in Merced on Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Highway 99 near Plainsburg Road. Reports indicate that a 49-year-old man exited his vehicle and attempted to cross the highway after being sideswept by a large rig.

The man is believed to have been struck by two vehicles while he was in the roadway.
Neither of the vehicles stopped after impacting the man.
Authorities are still searching for the driver responsible for this fatal collision. They are now investigating this crash as a felony hit-and-run.
