Legal Analysis on the Lankershim Boulevard Pedestrian Crash
When hit-and-run accidents occur involving a pedestrian, investigators review right-of-way and hit-and-run laws to determine what law the driver violated. This is an important factor because this can help investigators identify what kind of consequences the driver will face.
Since Solis was struck outside of a cross-walk, the driver violated California Vehicle Code 21950. This law requires all drivers to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians in an unmarked or marked crosswalk of an intersection.
Because the driver killed the pedestrian, investigators may also review California Penal Code 193 to which it discusses punishments if one commits vehicular manslaughter. Based on this law, the driver could face four to 10 years at the state prison.
