(Los Angeles, CA) Authorities identified Jorge Medina Gonzalez, 40, as the man killed in a multi-vehicle crash on the northbound Harbor Freeway on Sunday.
On November 1, at about 2:45 p.m. , the collision was reported to the California Highway Patrol on the northbound freeway. Multiple vehicles were involved. Gonzalez was pronounced dead on the freeway, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
Initial reports indicated that a pedestrian was involved. The CHP said investigators were working to determine Gonzalez’s role in the collision, including whether he was the pedestrian.
Following the crash, a temporary Sigalert was issued, closing the freeway’s second, third and fourth lanes. The medical examiner publicly identified Gonzalez on Monday, November 2.
Analysis of the Harbor (110) Freeway Accident
Gonzalez’s unresolved role calls for restraint in applying pedestrian-specific traffic laws. For his surviving relatives, California Code of Civil Procedure 377.60 permits specified family members, or a personal representative acting on their behalf, to pursue a wrongful-death claim when another person’s wrongful act or neglect causes a death. The investigation would inform whether there is a basis for such a claim.
Advice for the Family
When contacting the CHP about the Harbor (110) Freeway accident, provide Jorge’s full name, the November 1 date and the location south of Vernon Avenue to help identify the correct case.
