San Carlos, CA (December 25, 2023) It was just before 7:00 a.m. on Christmas Eve when 66-year-old Hok Gwan Jong and another driver struck a pedestrian in San Carlos. The tragic accident occurred on El Camino Real. The first driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, but the 2nd driver fled the scene, officials said.
The first vehicle that struck the pedestrian was driven by a 27-year-old male from Redwood City. He immediately stopped and waited for police officers to arrive. The pedestrian was then struck by a second vehicle that didn’t even slow down and just kept driving.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and tried to revive the pedestrian, but sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the first vehicle was not injured and officers do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in this fatal accident.
Officers found the 2nd vehicle near Adams Street and Harris Street in Redwood City. The driver was identified as Hok Gran Jong from San Mateo. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility.
