Clovis, CA (October 27, 2023) A Caltrans employee was struck and injured on Highway 168 in Clovis on Thursday, October 26th, according to the California Highway Patrol. Mike Salas, a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol, said that the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m., near Bullard Avenue.
An embankment cleanup was in progress and Caltrans workers were on the road working, with only lane cones between them and the roadway. While workers were cleaning the embankment, a car drove through the cones and hit one of the workers with its side mirror.

The driver didn’t stop, but instead drove away, Officer Salas said. He didn’t get too far before he was stopped by a good Samaritan near Helm Avenue. The person blocked the vehicle so the driver couldn’t get past or go around and get away. The good Samaritan waited with the suspect until deputies from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene.
Upon arrival, officers believed the driver acted as if he were intoxicated. They arrested him at the scene for suspicion of driving under the influence.
The Caltrans worker sustained moderate to major injuries in this accident and was taken to a local hospital to receive treatment.
