Las Vegas, NV (March 21, 2024) A community is mourning the loss of a teenage boy who lost his life in a sudden and tragic accident on Monday, March 18th. 17-year-old Devin Suyat-Heath was crossing the street when he was struck by a speeding pickup truck on Tree Line Drive in Las Vegas at approximately 9:30 p.m. when he was killed, according to reports.

It was Monday night in Las Vegas as 17-year-old Suyat-Heath began crossing Tree Line Drive on foot, near Hollywood Boulevard and Sahara Avenue. As he crossed, a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck came speeding down the road. The driver, 18-year-old Jesus Barraza, was driving at a speed of 70 miles per hour when he hit Suyat-Heath, officers said. Reports from the accident indicated that Barraza was traveling at speeds that were more than double the speed limit at the time of the collision.

The force from the impact threw Suyat-Heath’s body several feet where he landed on the roadway. Officers began CPR at the scene as they waited for paramedics to arrive. Devin’s dad, Ray Heath, arrived at the scene and witnessed his son, lying on the ground, receiving CPR. He said, “I ran up immediately, grabbed his head, I started screaming his name.”

Devin Suyat-Heath was rushed to Sunrise Hospital in critical condition. Emergency medical personnel at the hospital did everything they could, but his injuries were too severe and was, sadly, pronounced dead at the hospital. The family has created a GoFundMe page to help cover medical and funeral costs following this tragic accident.

Jesus Barraza was arrested and faces reckless driving chargers following this deadly accident. Evidence later determined that Barraza had been drag racing when he hit and killed Devin Suyat-Heath that night in Las Vegas.
