(Prescott, AZ) A 40-year-old Prescott Valley man was killed Tuesday night, November 4, in a Willow Lake Road accident after his motorcycle collided with a car at a local intersection.
According to the Prescott Police Department, the crash occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Willow Lake Road and Pine Drive. After investigating, authorities learned that the motorcyclist traveled eastbound on Willow Lake Road. Meanwhile, a Ford Eclipse, driven by a 56-year-old Prescott resident, attempted to make a left turn onto Pine Drive directly in front of him.
As a result of the unexpected turn, the motorcyclist struck the passenger side of the car, throwing him off his bike. When paramedics arrived, they transported him to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries, officials said. The driver of the Ford was not hurt. The man’s name has not yet been released pending family notification.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
Overview on the Willow Lake Road Accident
When a crash occurs during a turning maneuver, investigators typically look to the Right-of-Way Law. It requires drivers making a left turn to yield to any oncoming vehicle that poses an immediate hazard. The timing and visibility of the turn will be central to this investigation.
If speed or roadway conditions contributed, the Reasonable and Prudent Speed Law may also apply. It mandates that all motorists drive at speeds that are safe for current traffic and weather conditions. Investigators will review whether either party was traveling too fast to stop in time.
In addition, Arizona’s Motorcycle Safety Statute underscores the need for drivers to remain alert for motorcyclists and ensure intersections are clear before turning. Each of these statutes will help determine the cause and potential liability in the Willow Lake Road accident.
