(Las Vegas, Nevada) On October 7th, at about 9:43 p.m. a vehicle crash occurred, killing a 49-year-old motorcyclist at the intersection of West Russell Road and South Torrey Pines.
Witnesses at the scene stated that a 2013 Ford Fusion drove eastbound on Russell Road approaching a flashing yellow turn arrow at Torrey Pines Road. The Ford Fusion failed to yield to the speeding Suzuki GSX-R750 motorcycle that was going westbound on a green light. The crash occurred when the front end of the Suzuki motorcycle collided with the Ford’s right side. As a result, the motorcyclist was then ejected out of the vehicle.
When the medical personnel arrived at the scene, they performed life-saving measures. But despite their efforts, the woman died at the scene. The Ford driver sustained minor injuries and the driver had remained at the scene. The driver did not show any signs of impairment.
Legal Analysis on the South Torrey Pines Crash
Since the Ford Fusion vehicle failed to yield the right-of-way to the motorcyclist, it is likely that investigators would want to review the Motorcycle drivers’ Rights and Duties and traffic lane law code.
Investigators may review N.R.S 486.331. This law specifically states that a person driving a motorcycle on a highway has all the rights and is subjected to all duties that are re-applicable to drivers of motor vehicles.
If the driver disrupted the motorcyclist while having full use of the traffic lane they may have violated N.R.S 486.341. This law discusses that a person operating a motorcycle or moped upon a highway has all rights to full use of the traffic lane. Motor vehicles are prohibited to disrupt motorcycles.
