(Las Vegas, Nevada) On September 27th, a 24 year-old motorcyclist died after they collided with an SUV, just near the intersection of South Fort Apache Road and West Arby Avenue at around 2:33 p.m.
According to investigators, a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling off South Fort Apache approaching Arby Avenue while a 2025 Indian Scout motorcycle was traveling northbound in the opposite direction. The collision occurred when the Cherokee attempted a left turn directly toward the motorcyclist path and hit the front part of the motorcyclist causing the rider to get ejected out of the vehicle.
Emergency medical crews arrived at the scene and transported the rider to the University Medical Center’s Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead. The Jeep driver did not obtain any injuries, stayed on scene after the collision with no signs of impairment.
The driver of the jeep was identified as Nicholas Olajos, 30, from Las Vegas, and the 24-year-old’s identity has not been released.
Legal Perspective Near the Intersection of South Fort Apache Road and West Arby Avenue
Because the motorcycle drove on the opposite direction, investigators may review (NRS) 484B.200 which requires vehicles to be driven on the right half of the highway except in the following scenarios:
- Overtaking and passing another vehicle going the same direction under the laws governing such movements of
- The right half of the way is closed to traffic
- Upon a divided highway
- Upon a highway divided into three lanes for traffic under the laws applicable thereon;
- Upon a highway designated and posted for one-way traffic; or
- When the highway is not of sufficient width.
If these get violated in regards to a criminal offense, the driver may face serious charges such as
- a fine,
- imprisonment or both. This also goes for the driver as well under NRS 484B.130.
- a fine of $1,000
- 6 months imprisoned
- 120 hours of community service.
