San Diego, CA (February 23, 2024) The Oferrall neighborhood in San Diego was reminded today of just how quickly life can change. A 24-year-old man on a motorcycle was seriously injured following a collision with a vehicle on Skyline Drive, authorities said.
Officers with the San Diego Police Department were dispatched to the Oferrall neighborhood at approximately 4:43 p.m. on Thursday, February 22nd. Upon arrival, they learned that a 24-year-old man on a gray and black 2023 Suzuki 750 motorcycle had collided with a silver 2012 Mercedez-Benz C250. Initial reports indicated that the Mercedes-Benz, driven by a 61-year-old man was heading north on South O’Meara Street, when it stopped at a red light. He began to make a left turn when the light turned green, according to Officer Robert Helms.
The motorcyclist continued through the intersection as it turned red and collided with the Mercedes-Benz. The force from the collision caused the rider to be thrown from his motorcycle, officers said. He landed, hard, in the middle of the roadway with serious injuries. The rider’s motorcycle was smashed and destroyed in the accident.
Paramedics hurried to his side and discovered that the motorcyclist had a brain bleed, a collapsed lung and damage to his wrist, pelvis and femur, Helms said. He was taken to a local hospital via ambulance to receive treatment for the injuries.
San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division is heading the investigation into this accident. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities following the accident. Investigators are determined to figure out why this accident occurred and who was at fault.
